You have a really great selection of music apps for my smartphone, some of which i didn't even know exist.
By the way, do you also happen to have some android suggestions too?

I've used this quite a bit for both practice and with students. I actually downloaded it when it came with all the music as well and kept it on my old iPhone 3g, but it's fairly easy to get hold of them even with the new iReal B version. So I've heard.....

I agree that it's a affordable price for the whole suite and it works great. As long as you don't plan to use it as a backtrack machine. The sound isn't THAT great but for practice it's perfect.

Francesco, thank you for your positive and balanced review of my book! I really appreciate your taking the time to acquaint yourself with the material. The Scratch Pad has been a labor of love. I initially offered it in just the original key for C, Bb, Eb, and bass clef instruments, and those editions are available as both PDF downloads and print. The Complete edition in all 12 keys took the book to its pinnacle, and I fancy that it contains a lifetime of material for those ambitious enough to want to master "Giant Steps" in every key.

To be honest, that isn't me. I'm still working on mastering the tune in my own key as an alto man. But I have to say, I'm having a blast doing so! The material in the book is, as you have noted, primarily in running eighth notes. Each of the exercises was conceived individually as a technique-builder, and the eighth note patterns just happened by default because that's how I found myself practicing. The point of the exercises is to develop enough technical facility and accelerate one's harmonic command of the changes. Then, at a certain point, a player will begin to combine patterns and tweak the rhythms to create inventive, personal statements.

Thanks for going the extra mile with the practice track! I haven't used it yet, but I plan to check it out and incorporate it into my playing.

Keep blowing and have fun doing what you do, Francesco. This site is a fantastic resource for saxophonists!
